New York-based artist Dominique Fung (beforehand featured here) embarks on her first solo exhibition in Europe with “(Up)Rooted,” an allegorical journey that includes a mix of work and sculpture. Constructing upon themes and ideas explored in her set up works at Rockefeller Middle earlier this 12 months, the present performs with each the acquainted and the surreal, whereas encouraging viewers to think about a brand new visible narrative encompassing parts of Western artwork in addition to historic East Asian cultural and artwork references.
A meditation on historical reminiscences and histories, the sequence displays Fung’s circle of relatives lineage — the layers of disconnection resulting from language and site — and craving for the flexibility to place these lacking items again collectively.
