“My first reminiscences of appreciating any type of ‘artwork’ had been the illustrations in kids’s books,” writes Graham Franciose (previously). “My grandmother had a complete bookshelf stuffed with them within the visitor room of her New England dwelling, and my brother and cousins and I might pull them out and pour by them at each household gathering.” When paging by these formative texts, Francoise would create huge narratives to pair with the illustrations, ignoring the storylines already filling the pages.
At this time, the artist takes the same method along with his watercolor and gouache work. His newest exhibition titled Story to Inform includes 40 new items that start with a small seed of an thought and department out into huge, surreal worlds. Whereas Franciose typically contemplates people’ connection to nature and introspective journeys, this physique of labor sees recurring motifs of vegetation rising from animal our bodies and figures misplaced in contemplation. As with most of his dream-like work, topics are portrayed in unusual, unlikely conditions, providing viewers a number of threads to spin into a bigger story.
If you happen to’re in Seattle, cease by Gallery ERGO to see the exhibition earlier than it closes on June 10. In any other case, discover extra of Franciose’s works on Instagram.
