A brand new physique of labor by South Korea-born, Los Angeles-based artist So Youn Lee (beforehand featured here). Identified for her ethereal, dream-like aesthetic, Lee’s work centres round a genderless character named Mango who embodies the essence of human marvel. This, and different mystic figures inside her items, are impressed by human aspirations and qualities starting from the endearing and angelic to the peculiar and eerie.
Her newest present with Hashimoto Up to date explores the journey of feeling completely different and discovering belonging inside circumstances which might be themselves unusual. In “Anomaly” Lee showcases a solid of anomalous creatures navigating a dreamy, spacey world she has spent years constructing. Alongside wide-eyed amorphous explorer Mango is their companion Choco (impressed by Lee’s real-life French Bulldog who handed away in 2022). Integrating her grief into her work, color and narrative, the work depict Mango and Choco as alien voyagers, rekindling their relationship and traversing an unknown universe, by way of limbo and past.
