One evening, a person’s automobile goes off the street. His life flashes earlier than him, because the synopsis of “Iizuna Truthful” says, “Within the midst of the frenzy evening, a person finds himself misplaced within the crevasse of time.” Dreamlike scenes unfold in filmmaker Sumito Sakakibara’s poignant brief movie because it pans throughout the nameless protagonist’s buried reminiscences, inhibitions, and unkept guarantees, as he realizes, “he was the phantom.”
In hand-painted frames that merge regularly from one scene to the following, Sakakibara faucets into the nuances of nostalgia, human expertise, remorse, grief, and what it means to really be alive. Seemingly unrelated scenes unfold concurrently, dipping out and in of various time intervals and occasions, centering round a good that has come to the city of Iizuna.
